OUT-ER label associate Simone Gatto has had a big year with fine releases on Vosnos and Night Vision. Here he is back on his own label with four more cuts that challenge the usual conventions.
Opener ‘Maseo’ is a patiently building, way below the surface and subliminal cut that builds in smooth, serene and hypnotic layers. The same track gets remixed by the irrepressible Legowelt, who infuses it with his own magical synth moods and textures, adding lots of frostiness and a heft drum line that really drives the thing along. Third track ‘May 28th’ is a supple, rubbery techno jam that has spaceship synths circling all around it as a Millsian melody ripples in the foreground. Last but not least, ‘It Comes Back’ is a fusion of dub weight, elastic synth work and synthetic sound design that is as evocative to listen to as it is physical to dance to.This is a skillfully varied EP that offers something different with each of the four unique sounding cuts.
